Cute Things #2

I am heartbroken. I was acting as a surrogate mother to Elliot, a precious tabby cat, for the last six or seven weeks. Today he got on a plane to go live with his real mom again in Colorado. I only had a couple of days' notice. I've been crying off and on for the last three days.

Innocent one

You see, his mom left him with her ex-boyfriend a couple of months ago, and Elliot adopted me. He showed up at my back door howling pitifully. Soon he was sleeping on my sofa with his head resting on my lap. He came every morning at 6 or 7 am. He was always on my back step, waiting for me. He stayed all day every day until my husband put him outside for the night.

Sending me a kitty kiss

We both fell for him. He had food, water, and shelter at the other house, but at our house he had attention and love. When his mom was ready to be responsible for him again, she sent for him. That was it. Now he's gone. Will he be happy there? Will I ever get over him?

Cat and mouse

Until next time.... xoxo Jennifer

  1. Oh Jennifer, I suffer with you. I also have two cats and can understand your pain. They are so strong willed and yet so cuddly. One can get so used to it. You can only hope that he likes his new home. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to it. Remember, his other mommy loves him too, otherwise they would not have taken him.

  2. It might be time for you to adopt a cat! Our elderly cats had all passed on and we didn't want another. But, we adopted Zephyr whom I have been blogging about. Sad for you, but hope you find another kitty to fill the hole in your heart!

  3. It's a sad story but can have a good end if you adopt a kitten. I would, maybe more than one, if it was possible but my husband is allergic to cats. I feed the stray ones and they come to me when they just see me with a bag in my hand.

  4. Cuanto lo siento, son unos animales a los que enseguida se les coge cariño.
Supongo que seria una buena idea adoptar un gatito.

  6. Hi Audra! I feel really sad, but as my husband reminded me this morning, it was a gift to be able to have him in our lives, and we gave him some stability when he needed it--both gifts. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! :-)

  8. Hi DollZandThingZ! Yes, we had three elderly cats who passed away within months of each other. That was several years ago. Elliot helped us open our hearts to loving again. I will check out your posts about Zephyr--thanks!

  19. O, Jennifer it brings tears in my eyes, I can feel what you are going through, because I almost had the same situation last year.
But Cats have outstanding personality, I think he will survive.
You are the one that suffers,I think he will always remember you:)and when time goes by, you might think about him with out sadness, and remember the good times you had with him.

    Warm hugs Mieke xxx

  21. Hi Mieke--I'm so sorry you went through a similar situation. It is so painful, but I know that everything you say is true. He is probably fine now, but it will take time for me to get over it. Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I appreciate them so much! :-)

  22. So true, Birgit. And with an animal, I can't call him or email him and say, "Are you being cared for properly? Is your life stable and secure now? Are you happy?" None of that, so it feels like a bigger loss than just a good friend moving away. Thank you for your kind words.

  24. Those furry kids really do work their magic in our hearts, don't they? Sending you hugs.

  25. I know exactly the hole they leave in your lives when, for whatever reason, they are no longer around. :( As suggested by so many already there is a space in your heart for another feline to curl up and purr and tease and keep you warm and laughing. :)

  26. These precious creatures worm their way into our hearts. What a sweet boy and how hard it must have been for you to say goodbye. I'm thinking of you.

  33. Dear Jenn, it is very difficult when we separated from our pets, especially cats that are so tender ... Elliot will always be in your thinking. This is forever. I believe that the true mother loves him and he'll be very happy. ;)
    * Adopt a kitten only for you!

  34. Hi Eliana! It is always so good to hear from you! Yes, Elliot will always be in my heart! :-) She loves him and will try to do her best for him. He must have been very excited to see her after such a long separation! We'll see about a cat for me! ;-) Thank you for your sweet comment. :-)

  35. Oh Jennifer!!! Wow - I had no idea about your new kitty! First of all, what a fuzzy buzzy lovey bug!! Elliot's face is divine! You can just see the love! Man, my heart aches for you - I can only imagine...I know how hard it was for you before - the connections are deep. Hopefully Elliot will be happy and be loved fully, as deserved - and hopefully you will get updates. And maybe he is the catalyst to bring in a new full time resident. :-)

    Big hugs!

  37. You must be the most generous person alive. I would not have been as nice as you. I hope she will take care of that poor cat. Maybe there's another kitty out there in your future? Plenty of those out there all alone and homeless.
I'm so glad you stopped by and let me know that you like our dolls. I'm sure your shabby chic house is going to be a superb specimen!!
    hugs,
    Caroline

  38. Hi Caroline! It wasn't up to me. Her boyfriend was ultimately responsible for the cat and agreed to send Elliot back to her. I tried to convince him that the cat was happier and safer here (he even agreed), but in the end, he sent Elliot off. It was really heartbreaking, but I am trying to move on. :-(
