Caroline of Cinderella Moments suggested that I use things in the house that I find irresistible. I want it to be romantic, with flowers, a fireplace, a luxurious bed, perfume bottles, sexy lingerie, and so on. I love all of that romantic stuff!
So now I'm trying things out:
The room is so tiny that I'm limited as far as how much I can put in it, but that will help me to tell the story well with just a few key miniature items. I've been trying out existing pieces of furniture in different floor layouts. Eventually I'll paint everything white and shabby "chic-ify" it. For now, I'm still experimenting. ReplyDeleteDoesn't it give you a nice feeling when you finally decide on a theme, and I agree with Caroline, fill it with all the things that you love. You'll find space for the most important I'm sure, and little accessories that will give you joy also take up so little room. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

ReplyDeleteHi Sanne! I love the 1920s too! I was getting a little bit bored with my Victorian Dad's Dollhouse until I learned that the late-Victorian era ended around 1920. That's when I decided that I could have some Victorian and some 1920s stuff in the house. That helped me a lot! ;-)

ReplyDeleteHi Mieke! I couldn't agree with you more. My Dad's Dollhouse has gotten more interesting to me now that I've at least determined some parameters for it. It is set in the early 1920s. It's a country farmhouse, so they don't have all of the latest fashions in furniture. In fact, they have a few inherited antiques and a few of the newer things. The parlor is fancy, for guests, but the rest of the house is more relaxed and simple. One day I realized that I had running water in the bathroom but not in the kitchen! That didn't make any sense. Once I changed the dry sink to a real sink, the house started to come more alive for me. I found a small wedding photo and decided that a couple lived there. That freed me up to turn the child's bedroom into a library or study. I'd always wanted to collect mini books, but until I had a study, I had nowhere for the books. Once I had a study, I also had room for mini Asian art/religious objects too, which fit right into the late Victorian theme. The house is finally starting to make sense. Perhaps there will be more story, but just having these kinds of details has helped a lot in decorating the house. A story makes it that much deeper. I really enjoyed your latest Christmas scenes. I could feel the story there. BTW, the lit candles look magnificent! :-)

ReplyDeleteI'm famous! Oh sorry getting carried away here. LOL!! Your lover's cottage reminds me of my favorite old movie: The Enchanted Cottage. It's such a cozy movie. I try to replicate that feel all the time in my own dollhouses. I think this tiny house is my #1 favorite. Did you know that the one I'm working on right now(someday my prince will come) is that exact size? I used the bones of that kit to work off of.
