I finally decided on a theme for my miniature shabby chic cottage: it will be a lovers cottage. Once I decided to leave the walls white, I kept getting a romantic retreat in my mind. Then I won this miniature framed 1920s wedding photo in an ebay auction, and my ideas started to solidify:
Caroline of Cinderella Moments suggested that I use things in the house that I find irresistible. I want it to be romantic, with flowers, a fireplace, a luxurious bed, perfume bottles, sexy lingerie, and so on. I love all of that romantic stuff!
So now I'm trying things out:
The room is so tiny that I'm limited as far as how much I can put in it, but that will help me to tell the story well with just a few key miniature items. I've been trying out existing pieces of furniture in different floor layouts. Eventually I'll paint everything white and shabby "chic-ify" it. For now, I'm still experimenting. Until next time.... xoxo Jennifer
It is looking wonderful so far. It has an elegance about it. :)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it give you a nice feeling when you finally decide on a theme, and I agree with Caroline, fill it with all the things that you love. You'll find space for the most important I'm sure, and little accessories that will give you joy also take up so little room. I'm looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that the cottage is going to look fantastic :) The little wedding photo is a lovely detail!
ReplyDeleteel rincón de la fotografías es genial...feliz navidaD!
ReplyDeleteMaking it romantic is a wonderful idea. Some white lacy bed covers and curtains will be nice too. I'm sure you'll have a beautiful room there.
ReplyDeleteThis room looks very nice, romantic and elegant.
ReplyDeleteBye Faby
Lovely idea! Can't wait to see more!!
ReplyDeleteI believe there's a little bit of shabby chic in all of us even those of us who say we don't want shabby chic :).
ReplyDeleteLovers' cottage will be any honeymooners' dream home I'm sure!
Una romantica y elegante habitacion, me encanta.

ReplyDeleteHi Sans! Your projects are shabby chic in their own way. You're aging the items too, just not with the aim of looking chic. My husband, whose mom was an antique dealer, called it "distressed." We say our entire home is distressed! lol
ReplyDeleteHoneymooners, newlyweds, romantic bedroom, these are my vision. Thanks for your thoughtful comment! It's always lovely to hear from you! :-)
Thank you, Ascension! I appreciate your support so much! Glad you like the vintage newlywed photo too! :-)

Hi The Old Maid! Thank you for your compliment on the photo and light. I've discovered that at night in my craft room, when I just use one craft light behind the shabby chic cottage, I get that nice light in my photos. I can't wait to do more on my lovers cottage too--I'll be sure to show the progress! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vicky! That is so sweet of you to say! I love hearing from you and look forward to seeing more on your blog soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteJennifer, looks inspiring! And what a lovely 20's photo, my favourite decade. Wish I had been a flapper girl from that era :)) Can't wait to see how this room turns out. Thank you again for your sweet comments on my posts! Hugs from Sanne
ReplyDeleteThe room is looking beautiful...I have just one question ....Is the room for the bride and groom or has one taken a lover?
ReplyDeleteHi Sanne! I love the 1920s too! I was getting a little bit bored with my Victorian Dad's Dollhouse until I learned that the late-Victorian era ended around 1920. That's when I decided that I could have some Victorian and some 1920s stuff in the house. That helped me a lot! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question, Kez! ;-) It is for the bride and groom, of course! But the other option would make an interesting story too! Who wants to take that project on?! ;-) Thanks for your fun comment! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer, what a sweet idea, a lovers cottage, I love the wedding photo, It could be their lovers cottage, and it brings us all back to the 1920s, full of precious memories.
ReplyDeleteHugs Mieke xxx
That is it, Mieke! You've hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what I envision!!! Isn't it romantic? :-)Thank you so much for writing with so much clarity what was running around in my head! :-)
ReplyDeleteEsa fotografía es ideal para la habitación que estas decorando. Un saludo, Eva
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer I'm very happy I could be of any help, I also try to make little story's with my projects, it makes them come alive.
ReplyDeleteHugs Mieke xxx
Hola Eva! I love that photo! The story is evolving from it! It is so romantic, vintage and sweet. I'm glad you think it is perfect for this room. Thank you for your sweet comment! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Mieke! I couldn't agree with you more. My Dad's Dollhouse has gotten more interesting to me now that I've at least determined some parameters for it. It is set in the early 1920s. It's a country farmhouse, so they don't have all of the latest fashions in furniture. In fact, they have a few inherited antiques and a few of the newer things. The parlor is fancy, for guests, but the rest of the house is more relaxed and simple. One day I realized that I had running water in the bathroom but not in the kitchen! That didn't make any sense. Once I changed the dry sink to a real sink, the house started to come more alive for me. I found a small wedding photo and decided that a couple lived there. That freed me up to turn the child's bedroom into a library or study. I'd always wanted to collect mini books, but until I had a study, I had nowhere for the books. Once I had a study, I also had room for mini Asian art/religious objects too, which fit right into the late Victorian theme. The house is finally starting to make sense. Perhaps there will be more story, but just having these kinds of details has helped a lot in decorating the house. A story makes it that much deeper. I really enjoyed your latest Christmas scenes. I could feel the story there. BTW, the lit candles look magnificent! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you found your theme, Jennifer. That photo is so lovely! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Good luck and wishing you lots of fun with your project!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lucille! That is really kind of you! I smile every time I see your comments, because I remember the very first one you left me. You are so very genuine and thoughtful! :-)

You've chosen the best of all themes, as John Lennon said: "All you need is love" (LOL). And so many lovely opportunities to make this vision come true - I'm so glad to accompany on your journey via blog... and what you've arranged so far looks very promising!

Hi Maria! It's so nice to hear from you! You must be busy lately, with your new grandbaby and Christmas coming! Thank you for your lovely comment, including compliments! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm famous! Oh sorry getting carried away here. LOL!! Your lover's cottage reminds me of my favorite old movie: The Enchanted Cottage. It's such a cozy movie. I try to replicate that feel all the time in my own dollhouses. I think this tiny house is my #1 favorite. Did you know that the one I'm working on right now(someday my prince will come) is that exact size? I used the bones of that kit to work off of.
ReplyDeleteI think you are going to love stuffing that little place with your favorite things. It is fabulous already!
hugs,
Caroline(thanks for the mention!)
Looks so.. well--un-miniature :) I would never know the room was a miniature just looking at the photos WOW!

ReplyDeleteHi Caroline! I haven't seen that movie, but now I'm going to have to watch it! :-) I didn't realize you were using this same little kit as the bones of your current project--now that gives me some perspective! :-) You're very welcome for the mention--thanks for the great comment!
