I'm starting a new series here at Plushpussycat. You saw the title: it's called Cute Things. Each time I write a Cute Things post, I'll feature something cute that I own, or that someone made, or that I saw somewhere. You get the idea! It may be a miniature, a plushy, something vintage, or whatever.
For my first post today, I want to share this cute thing I found at a thrift store. I paid at most 25 cents for it. And it's super-cute! :-) It's a 78 rpm phonograph record from 1948, designed for a child. It measures 6 3/4 inches (17 cm) across. On one side of the record is the song "Three Little Kittens":
The second side has the song "Wash Your Hands, Brush Your Teeth":
I adore the vintage-style illustrations and the cute critters! I wish I could listen to it, but I don't have the kind of equipment needed. By the way, the blue gingham fabric in the background of these photos came from The Knittn' Kitten: Portland's Vintage Fabric and Craft Store. I find all kinds of vintage fabrics, ribbons, buttons, beads, and more there. They also have an online shop on Etsy.
So what do you think? Is the record cute? If so, what do you like about it? Did you ever have one (or something like it)? Does it remind you of anything? I want to know! :-) Until next time.... xoxo Jennifer

ReplyDeleteHi TM! Thank you for your sweet comment! :-)
ReplyDeleteI had to explain to Flutterby what a record is... (LOL). I agree with you - it's really cute and you did well to buy it! I really like the design, it reminds me of the early cartoons like the Silly Symphonies by Disney - and I like your idea of this new "series". I'm curious what will be next!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Birgit (and from Flutterby, too, who knows a little about record-players, LPs and saphire/diamond needles now *smile*)
Hi Birgit and Flutterby! Thank you for your lovely comment! Yes, it's really dated, isn't it? :-) "The Old Days!" I agree with you--it does look like original Disney--I love that era. Drora emailed me a really funny Tom and Jerry cartoon from around that time--so cute! I'm glad you like the idea for Cute Things! I'm excited to do it now and again! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt`s really cute. I have never had something like that. The pictures make me feel glad.
ReplyDeleteMona

ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer, what a nice idea starting a cute things post.
ReplyDeleteI never saw such a pretty record before, I like the colors and the little kittens very much.
What a kind way to learn children to wash and brush.

ReplyDeleteHello Caroline! Great to hear from you! Yeah, great colors! I remember having a little record player that played 33s and 45s. I don't know if it would play 78s as well or not. Thanks for the memories! :-)

ReplyDeleteHi anna! Wow! Thank you for the heads up! I won a prize on Anna's blog--woohoo! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to like about it? It's just so cute!!! It reminds me of a small record player I had. I had a Cinderella story book and the record played out the story. I guess it was kind of like those read along books they sell today. I loved playing it just to hear the fairy godmother sing the bibbity-bobbety-boo song. LOL =)
ReplyDeleteHi Lataina! What a fantastic memory! Thank you so much for sharing this. I love that you remember the bibbity bobitty boo song! Thanks so much for leaving a sweet comment! :-)
