Another Dollhouse?

I can't believe I did it again: I added another dollhouse to my collection. Friends told me about it. It's the kind of feminine, romantic house I love, and it already has a cedar shake roof, gingerbread galore, a stairway, and working windows and doors--woohoo!

I wasn't planning on adding another house to my collection. I already have Dad's Dollhouse, the 1960s mid-century modern ranch dollhouse, and the house I won in a giveaway that has featured both the 1920s Lover's Cottage and shabby chic Cupcake Cottage inside (not at the same time, of course!).

I never want to have too many projects that are overwhelming to me, so I was a little concerned about adding this house to my collection. Once I got it home, however, I realized that it is just perfect for my yet-unrealized miniature dreams.

The shabby chic kitchen that is known as Cupcake Cottage fits on the spacious first floor, and the second floor could house a dreamy bedroom and a little nook for a young child's room--fun!

Adding this one makes a total of four dollhouses for me. How about you? Do you have a number of dollhouses or roomboxes? If so, how many do you have? What feels like a comfortable number for you, and how many is too many? ;-)

Does anyone recognize the brand of this dollhouse? I researched online but found nothing. I'm also not sure about its architectural style. It says "Victorian" to me, but does it have a specific style, such as Queen Anne? I would be grateful for any information. Thank you in advance for your help! Keep having fun! xoxo Jennifer

  7. Hi Jennifer! Great find! Congratulations! What I think you have there is a Duracraft Madison dollhouse. (Evilbay was the only place I found a decent picture, sorry - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doll-House-KIT-Dura-Craft-MADISON-MD740-Victorian-Mansion-DIY-Eastlake-/110915741355?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d317e6ab#ht_2615wt_1163).

  10. Jennifer, what a beautiful house! The rooms have such a fine size, you will have so much fun to furniture it! And don´t worry, as long as you find a nice place for it and have fun with it, it is not too much :-) (I startet one and a half year ago with making minis, and there are 3 unfinished houses, a treestump-house and two roomboxes. The bigger problem for me is: how can I stash all my materials???? :O) ...Have fun!

  11. I love this little house! Built this one - but sold it to a friend to make room for more!

In my possession now I have the Glorious Glenwood I am working on, my grandmothers house the DC San Fran a half scale (that needs to find a home) plus my daughter has her Bungalow and barn.

I am also working on a corner holiday display unit. So one big roombox divided up into Valentines Easter Patriotic Halloween Thanksgiving and Christmas. I dont even remember how many houses I have built/rehabed and let go!!

  17. Who in their right mind could have resisted such a sweet little house? You were so lucky to get it and at such a fantastic price. I'm sure you'll manage to finish it. It has so much potential. It is certainly unique.

  18. Oh, this house is beautiful! I don't blame you for not passing it up. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
I only have one dollhouse, but sadly, it's in the attic. Just no space for it...hopefully our next home will allow room for one!

  19. Don't worry, it's not your fault - it's the vendor's fault, offering this treasure at such an irresistable price. You had no other choice than to take it home! ;O) What a beautiful house, it will look fantastic when you're finished (and btw - finishing is the part I like the least about our hobby *grin*). But tell me: What is a gingerbread galore? I know the meaning of the two words but not this expression...

    Hugs

  21. Hello everyone! Thank you all for such sweet and supportive comments! Thank you, Philip, for the architectural insight, and to Wendy, Audra, and A. Wright for providing the brand and name of the house (and links!). You guys are fantastic! Birgit: gingerbread refers to the fancy white trim on the house, and galore means "a lot," so "gingerbread galore" means a lot of fancy trim." Thanks for asking! I had to make it complex, didn't I? ;-) xoxo Jennifer

  22. Well...you found yourself a little gem! Lucky girl! I love the look of it and the rooms are perfect. What a fun new project you've found!!! Over the years (we won't say how many...lol) I've had too many houses/roomboxes, etc. to count. They just kept falling into my hands, and I kept building them. I narrowed it down to one large house that I kit bashed two kits together. Then last year, I tore it apart and went smaller, now I've got the two new ones that I'm working on Storybook and Sweet Pea and Clover. We little mini people are obsessed with houses...it's part of the journey, fun, hobby. I always think, "this is it", then I change it up AGAIN!
    Have fun! xoso Sandy

  24. Ho Jennifer è stupenda, hai fatto benissimo a comprarla!!!

  25. I think you'll have great fun with this house. I think there is no comfortable number, as long as you have enough space to have them. I have 2 dollhouses, 2 shops, 2 roomboxes and I'm going to make a new dollhouse... I should add that I gave one dollhouse to my niece and a shop and a dollhouse are in the attic, waiting to be redone.

  28. Dear Plush Pussycat, thank you for coming over to my blog and your sweet comment and thank you ever so much for being a new follower. Every new follower is a thrill!

Your dolls house is really lovely. The Wedgewood jasperware colours are bright and fresh and I love all the twiddly bits. I would offer a cautionary note. My best friend in the whole world started out with a few dolls houses. She now has 42. And couting. Apparently, there's no such thing as 'enough' for dolls houses.

  31. It is a beautiful house, I can see why you bought it, I am on a totall miniblock right now, I have to many projects and thinking about going back to just one house and make that perfect, I have 4 houses and not one is finished, than I have some shops and roomboxes, only a few roomboxes are finished. I have to become at least 200 to finish all this and what wil happen to them , with no mini lovers in the family. so after my vacation (I am in Brazil at my doughter place) I will start on selling or gving away some things

  32. Hi Jennifer,
You're a lucky woman. To get such a nice house for such a good price is great. What it is for a house that I can not tell you, but I like it very well.
I have not a single house. I collect miniatures only at the flea market, or make something myself. I can not decide on a style. I do everything what I like and what I can. A house must wait.

  45. It is super cute! I'm trying to find a new home for a rather large remodeled doll house right now (pictured on my blog) because it's huge and I want the space to start a tudor style cottage I have as a kit! I want to make it for my daughter :)

So if you know any one that wants a big one - take a look at the pics on my blog and email me!!

  47. Three large dollhouses (if you don't include the collapsed Madeline House downstairs) and many, many small houses (Of the Michaels CD variety). Not all of them are, in fact most of them are not furnished or inhabited. I do have one I am working on right now, but none of mine have the detail yours do. You've been busy since I was last here.
